Hello, we had an exclusive interview with Wakisa James. This is how it was.
Question: What first got you into music?
Answer: I realized I could compose my own songs
Question: Who inspired you to make music?
Answer: I have grown up listening to the likes of Wambali Mkandawire, Vic Marley , Billy Kaunda.
Question: How would you describe the music that you typically create?
Answer: I call it tumbuka soul. Most of my compositions are a type which people can relate to. Life is a big inspiration for my composition.
Question: What is your creative process like?
Answer: It depends. I sometimes make a song on an already beat or I create a melody then work on a beat and finish my composition once the beat is done.
Question: Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Answer: Sonyezo and Wizkid
Question: If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?
Answer: Wakisa James, Homage, Fredokiss, KellKay and Gwamba
Question: What is one message you would give to your fans?
Answer: My fans deserve to listen to good music. I am creating more for them.
Question: What is the most useless talent you have?
Answer: Hehehe! I dont know.
Question: What would you be doing right now, if it wasn't for your music career?
Answer: Apart from the music, I am a state registered nurse. Guess would be working.
Question: Where have you performed? What are your favourite and least favourite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?
Answer: Favourite. (Lake of stars, Mzuzu tourist lodge)
least favorite (Mzimba show, the organizers had to run away from settling my bills).
I am planning to organize a show in Mzuzu this December).
Question: How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
Answer: Despite internet being a good platform, I feel Malawi is still on the low hence music business facing challenges.

Question: What is the most trouble youve ever gotten into?
Answer: Hehe I had issues with the police.
Question: What is the best advice you've been given?
Answer: Pray for it, work for it until it happens.
Question: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Answer: I would make sure Cosoma is properly regulated and artists loyalties are distributed accordingly. Again, I would ensure that at least 80% music played in radio stations plus clubs is Malawi music.
